Can Pneumonia Cause Memory Loss?

I was inquiring about the link between pneumonia and memory loss. My cousin had meningitis earlier in her life, and she ended up with a disease similar to Alzheimer s. She had been an executive, but was no longer able to write her name. About 8 years after diagnosis, she passed away from this disease, this past February. At the beginning, she just thought it was the brain fog of fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia fourteen years ago after pneumonia. I am now having trouble recalling nouns or forgetting not only the answer to a question, but forgetting I ve even asked. This makes people think I m not listening to them.

Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Fibromyalgia is often due to depression and that usually has some change in cognitive function. anti-depressants, especially NON-sedating ones mostly fix this. Cannot say in your particular case without an examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
