Can Person With Thickened Aortic Valve Get Hip Replacement Surgery?

My mum is 72 and was due to receive hip replacement surgery in a few days but her final check up revealed she has thickening of the Aortic valve and has been told she cannot have the hip surgery. Will she ever be suitable for surgey or does she now have to accept that it will not happen. She has been referred fo further tests and so far has been told her condition is mid to serious. Her heart is strong and functioning properly in every other way. Their is no family history of this, thank you

Hello,

Aortic valve thickening can make the area through which the blood flows become less. This is aortic stenosis. In such cases the openings of the coronary arteries which supply blood to the heart may become narrow. The heart will not get sufficient blood when it is put to stress and a person can get a chest pain and even a heart attack in very severe cases. In such patients there is a risk of heart attack during a major surgery like hip replacement.
The way to proceed would be to correct the heart problem first and then have the hip surgery.
If you have further queries, I shall be happy to answer.
Have a good day!
