Can Pacemaker Be Placed In The Chest While Having Pneumonia?

My dad is 96 His heart rate is very low He also is in the hospital with pneumonia since yesterday. He had bypass surgery 15 years ago, but they told me if he doesn t put in a pace maker quickly he will die. What should I do, and should I wait till pneumonia goes away. He came in with 103 temp. and heart palpitations

Pacemaker implantation should be ideally done in relatively sterile environment.Its very important for the pneumonia to be treated first aggressively before resorting to invasive procedures.If not this can lead to spread of infective foci through the lungs and the heart setting up the process of septicemia.Consult your doctor for further care.Thank you.
