Can Oral Antibiotics Be Given For Sore Throat In A Child?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...We think our 13 year old daughter has pityriasis rosea. We see a dermatologist next week. She now has a sore throat. She has been spending time with a cousin over the holidays who had strep throat. Is it a problem for her to take oral antibiotics?

Hi,

As per your query, your child has symptoms of a sore throat which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection. It could be due to poor immunity of the body as well.

Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you do warm saline gargles and avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. You should visit the ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get throat swab test and blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take proper course of antibiotics. Apply mist humidifiers in the room. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
