Hello Doctor, My mom is now 60 years old and a few week ago she was suffering from stroke. MRI report show as below. (1) Acute non-haemorrhagic infarct (right periventricular/ posterior aspect of corona radiata) (2) Acute to early subacute infarct (posterior aspect of the right lentiform nucleus) (3) Mild white matter ischaemia (4) TOF MRA reveals no significant stenosis or aneurysm of the major intracranial arteries.
Please suggest what care should be taken in this regard. Does she getting back to normal condition.Thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
While it would be useful to be able to view the images from the description it doesn't look like a severe stroke. I would say that there are good chances to gradually improve over the next 3-6 months without major disability. As for what should be done it is important to investigate the origin of the stroke. Causes can be many, most common ones are blood clots coming from the heart (when there are issues such ass heart arrhythmia) or atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid arteries. For that purpose additional tests are needed, like imaging of the neck blood vessels, heart ultrasound and rhythm monitoring. Depending on the origin appropriate treatment with blood thinners will be needed to prevent other strokes from happening again in the future.
Hope I have answered your query.
