Can One Drink Alcohol A Day After Taking Celexa?

Hi I’m just wondering if I can go out drinking with some friends tonight... I started taking 10mg of Celexa first dose of it around 5pm last night and ended up not liking it. It’s is now 9pm over 24 hours later. I was just wondering if it’s okay to go out and drink since I stopped it.

Hi,

It is not recommended to drink alcohol while taking Celexa or after discontinuing it. Alcohol can interact with Celexa and increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Additionally, alcohol can make the symptoms of depression worse and interfere with the effectiveness of the medication. It's always best to talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol while taking any medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
