Can ,muffled Hearing Be Significant Of Damage To Ears?
Damaged my ears two weeks ago at a shooting range, my friend is a member only went to be friendly. Anyway. I shot 4 rounds and talked to him, noticed his voice was muffled. Knew then my ears were messed up. I was wearing foam ear plugs, but my hearing was still messed up. I was shocked I damaged my ears when I was wearing ear protection. I have read this will last forever and never go away. I have read take 60 mg predosoine to help. It has been two weeks going on three. Still ringing and no change. I have heard that the nerves in my ear a lying down and if this is not taken care of by medication they will die.
This is noise induced sudden sensorineural hearing loss as appears from your desription. Still it can be rupture of ear drums due to loud noise and pressure. You need to consult your ENT Surgeon on a priority basis. He will do a detailed examination of your ear drums, Audiometry pure tone. If there is damage to the nerves, the only remedy is high dose of steroids Intravenous route. They are given for few days and daily audiometry is done. If after 3 days also the audiogram is same, you are put on oral steroids for 3-4 weeks in tapering doses.
You need to consult a ENT Surgeon ASAP. Hope the above clarifies your doubts. Thanks and regards, Dr Nandu Kolwadkar
