Can Motor Function Come Back After A Surgery For Mandibular Fractures?

I broke my jaw on each side 3 weeks ago and got titanium plates put in (one on each side). The left side they went in along the outside of my jaw along the jawline. The right side they cut inside my mouth. It was mandibular fractures. It has been three weeks since surgery, swelling went down, however I do not have motor function of my bottom left lip (the side they cut along my jawline exterior). I am scared my smile will never be the same. I have sensory feelings, but no motor nerve to pull down the left side of my bottom lip during smiling. I can pucker my lips fine, but my smile is not nearly symetrical. It still feels a tiny bit numb along my chin to jawline on that side. The surgeon says there s always a chance it doesnt come back, and he was not very re assuring that it will heal. Does this happen alot!? Will this heal ever!? I m extremely nervous.

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern let me tell you that this is not the motor function disorder but this could be a destruction or damage of peripheral nerve that must be innervated to the mandibular region the recovery is depend upon the damage to the never if this is minimal then this would come around and this is sever then recovery would not be there, conduction test would clear the doubt better to see the neurophysician, hope this information helps you have nice day,
