Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my freind and i got into a bad argument we are no longer freinds. i have known her for nine years. yesterday i was thinking about the argument and my heart started to beat really fast and i started to shake and get really hot. is this just because im so stressed? and ever since the argument i am physically ill is stress the reason for this?
Yes mental stress can cause palpitations.I am sorry for loosing your friend. As your nine years friendship came to end suddenly. it hurts you.
When ever person hurt or becomes sad due to any bad situation or incidence, his mind thinks over it a lot and some neurochemical changes occurs. This changes in brain lead to sympathetic system centers in the brain to be activated.Person becomes anxious and body need more blood supply to tackle this anxiety response. So heart pumps more than the usual in terms of frequency per minute as well as force to throw blood in to body. So one can feel heart pumping(palpitation).Shaking and tremors also occurs due to the same.
As soon as this response subside, heart starts to pump normal.if you feel this stress for more than 15 days and it affects your occupation and/or social life, then you should consult a doctor. Otherwise time is the solution. Hope I have answered your query. Regards, Dr.Chintan Solanki.
