Can Menopause Cause Migraine Headaches?

A couple days ago my scalp and skin started itching when returning from my trip to Oregon, back to my home in Nevada. I used a therapeutic shampoo this morning to try to relieve the symptoms whick only lasted a few hours. This evening I have a lot of pressure on the crown of my head. I’m currently undergoing menopause and have experienced a number of hot flashes daily. The only medication I’m taking is Xeralto for pulmonary hypertension and I’m on 1liter of Oxygen therapy in Nevada at our elevation. I didn’t need any extra O2 in Oregon. Plus, my blood pressure is currently high at 142/87 which is unusual for me. Any ideas on what can be causing this head pressure? I plan to call my physician tomorrow but any info tonight would br appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Symptoms you are having are result of hormonal dysregulations, mainly occurs after menopause. Treatment of your problem is HRT, i.e. hormonal replacement therapy and mild doses of SSRIs. But these symptoms are temporary and will recover with time.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Stay healthy.

Kind regards.
