Can Marijuana Smoke Cause Sore Throat With Swollen Tonsils?

Hi, well I've only smoked marijuana once and that time my friend blew the smoke in my mouth. After that day, my throat became very dry and my tonsils started to swell up. After about a month i could barely talk, and my mom took me to the emergency room. They told me I had strep throat. But I want to know if it was the marijuana that caused it and how?

Hi,

I do not think marijuana can lead to a streptococcal infection of the throat. At the most, the smoke might have irritated the lining of the throat, which then became vulnerable to infection. But even that doesn't seem very likely since you smoked once only.

Best wishes.
