Can Long Term Use Of Ergodryll Capsules Cause Damage To Veins In Legs?
I was on Ergodryll capsules for 14 years under my then doctor who was chinese . I was given no other info. than to take them whenever I had a headache which was always-everyday I took them for the fourteen years the doctor used to just hand me the scripts no matter what other reason I was there to see him! I was never told the side effects etc so consequently I over dosed on them quite often.I finally realised that I needed help as the medication was actually giving me the headaches so it was catch 22 situation. Towards the end of the 14 years I saw another doctor who told me because of the dosage I had been taking (sometimes up to 12 or more capsules a day plus codeine etc for the pain also) that I was lucky to be alive!! He put me into Fremantle hosp in West Australia where he did a spinal tap and found I didn t have any tumours etc,, and I went cold turkey for 12 days he then told me that if I had been on them for another 3 months I would have probably lost both legs! I am now 67 years of age I went off this drug in 1984. I recently found out from my pharmacist that they have removed from the market for a while now. I have pain in my legs continually, four years ago I had spinal fusion and although my sciatic pain is now 90% better I often wonder if the Ergodryll had or has caused damage to the veins etc in my legs. Sorry for such a long query but I have often wondered about damage the drug could have caused ..Yours tuly Jill Barnes
Hello, Welcome to HCM. Ergodryl was used for treatment of vascular headaches . It was seen that this medicine could compromise the blood circulation in peripheral tissues and was discontinued . Peripheral ischemia , cardiotoxicity and lower extremity arterial vasospasms were side effects of this drug. So you are quite lucky that you met a right Doctor on quite a right time . Best Regards, DR.S.Tomar
