Can Liver Damage Caused By The Medicine Remicade Be Reversed?

Aug 27, 2012 - My brother is facing death, terminally I ll, because he is close to suffering  complete body/liver shut down in the immediate future because of Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).  My brother has been taking Remicade for quite awhile, which liver damage is a potential side effect.  His sodium levels are unmanageable. He doesn t have enough energy to move. He has been in and out of the hospital by ambulance several times but was desperate to get home because of the pain he was suffering.  Once he got home he and his wife realized the gravity of the situation.   Of course he is extremely cautious about using pain medication because it has to be processed by his liver. I m asking, as a last resort almost, if there is any miracle cure that can help him to return to a functioning state. My entire family is scared to death that we will lose him. My brother lives in Barrie , Ontario, Canada. We are desperate at this point.  I m sure you receive more than your share of pleas for help from the public everyday. I just hope with all my heart that you can recommend something that can help him as he fights for his life!!!!   From Tammy Young 1-780-232-8264 (cell) 1-780-962-2971 (home)

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Unfortunately, if the liver has been damaged as you said, there is nothing to do for your brother except liver transplantation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
