Can Irritation Of The Spleen Cause Pain Under The Left Rib Cage?

I have had a pain under my upper left rib cage. I have had discomfort for several months but it seems to be getting worse. I have lost several lbs over the last 6 months (15) I weight 120 and 5 7 . I m concerned because my left upper rib area seems to be tender and poking out more than the right side. I m concerned could it be there is something wrong with my spleen. Could this cause my rib to poke out and cause discomfort?

Hello,

As per your history it looks like you need a detailed evaluation for your weight loss. You should get a complete blood count with platelet count and a ultrasound abdomen done in the first place. Enlargement of the spleen can occur in a number of clinical conditions. So evaluation is needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Meera Rajeev, Anesthesiologist
