Can Iron Deficiency Cause Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis?

Hello doctor.. my mother is suffering from idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis. We have recently consulted to dermetelogist... but still i want to answer of some of my questions.. my mother is having white spots in her arms, in her legs, thice and her tummy. So my question is.. this IGH occurs due to lack of hemoglobin? These white spots will spread in the whole body? Their size will increase or not? Their color will be dark after sometime or not? And last please tell precautions and cures and what food should get avoided or what we eat? Please answer.. thank you... Please reply fast

Hello,

No IGH is not due to iron deficiency but it is mostly due to prolonged exposure in the sun (effect of sun on melanocytes), genetic and hereditary factors (chromosomal abnormalities).

The treatment includes therapy with non-ablative fractionated carbon dioxide laser, chemical peels of cryotherapy, corticosteroid injections, etc. Sun rays exposure is to be avoided and it is suggested to wear long sleeved clothes. Whether the size will increase or not depends on the progress of the disease and its response to the treatment being given.
