Can Intake Of Wellbutrin And Strattera Together Cause Liver Damage?

I have been taking prescribed medications,( Wellbutrin and Strattera together ) . They have been very helpful in my adult ADHD symptoms and depression and impulsivity symptoms. Also my compulsive eating comes back under control while taking this combination. Recently the Pharmacist brought to m y attention that the combination of these two medication can cause liver damage .

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Wellbutrin [bupropion hydrochloride] is an antidepressant medication used to treat major depressive disorder [ADHD] and seasonal affective disorder and major ADR [adverse drug reaction] of the drug is to cause Seizures, and suicidal tendency.

PS. Bupropion therapy is associated with brief and asymptomatic elevations in serum aminotransferase levels with rare instances of clinically apparent acute liver injury and usually does not require dose modification or discontinuation as such regular laboratory examination of Liver Function test [LFT's] and careful monitoring is essential

2. Strattera [Atomoxetine] is also a FDA approved drug for the treatment of ADHD and is selective norephrine reuptake inhibitor [SNRI] and yes this drug do cause liver injury so if you notice symptoms like: itching of skin, yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, right quadrant pain, flu like symptoms then immediately contact your attending physician.

3. You should discuss the potential benefits of the drug against harmful effects with your doctor [and avoid alcohol]
