Can Increased Dosage Of Lisinopril Be Taken For Elevated BP Levels?

I take 5mg of lisinopril daily. I must have eaten too much sodium yesterday because my blood pressure was higher than normal. So, I took an extra 5mg. Is that harmful? I ve done that about 3 times over the last 6 months when I overdo my sodium consumption.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As a physician I would like to tell you that you should not temper with the dosages of the prescribed drug by your physician. Because if there is overdose of a drug there might be chances of sudden hypotension. Single intake of high consumption of sodium will not warrant for increase in medication dose. So, in future before taking extra dose, consult with your physician at first and then only alter it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Abhijeet
