Can I Discontinue Atenolol Inspite Of Having Chest Pain?

I am looking for my doctor to call me and say she will take me off of Atenolol 50 mg. I told my doctor that i was having a few chest pains but they come and go..I worn a 24 hr heart monitor and the dr saw PVC but nothing major for me to really be concern. So the next question is will my doctor take me off or can i stop myself. I feel fine and did i mention i am going through menopause as well and it has been 7 mos since i stop smoking... I always had low blood pressure since my teenage and young adult years..I highly doubt i have a serious problem with my heart to stay on this medication..So can anyone here help me out ...by the way i do have a appt with my dr for a follow visit......

Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern i would advice you to discuss with your doctor about Atenolol discontinuation. As your attending doctor knows better your medical history, and the exact indications when prescribing Atenolol to you, it remains on his decision for judging whether to stop this drug. Nevertheless, you need to discuss with your doctor even for a simple reason. Atenolol when stopped, needs to be tapered off slowly, reducing gradually the dose, as otherwise a rebound phenomenon may appear. So discuss first with your doctor for a better decision.
Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
