Can I Continue Roaccutane For Acne Scars On Face?

Hi. I had acne on my face last year and was on roaccutane (30g) for near enough four months. When he took me off the roaccutane I wasn t sure it was the right choice as I still had dodgy skin. I ve been off roaccutane for about 5 months and my scars are still there as I still get random spots/marks forming. Do I need to go back on roaccutane for a few months?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

This oral drug that you were taking contains an Oral retinoid i.e Isotretinoin.
Isotretinoin is one of the most effective antiacne treatment, however, it would not benefit already formed acne scars.
This drug is mainly indicated for treatment of moderate to severe grade of inflammatory acne.
Inflammatory acne is usually associated with scaring and therefore tackling this kind of acne with Isotretinoin would reduce chances of scaring.
However, it won't affect scaring that is already existing.
Acne can recur after a course of isotretinoin and some patients may require a repeat course or courses.
I suggest you to visit your dermatologist. Your dermatologist will assess whether a repeat course of Isotretinoin is warranted in your case or not.
