Can Hormonally Inactive Insulinomas Become Active At The Drop Of A Pin?

Can insullinomas that are harmonally inactive become active at the drop of a pin. Have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia and was told not to use the hand devices because they do not work for me. I need to have blood drawn. Do they (insullinoma) cause abdomen pain. I have severe abdomen for almost a year.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Pain abdomen can be a feature of insulinoma if it is growing big and pressing on adjacent organs. Insulinoma are tummors arising from pancreas and secrete excess insulin. They cause symptoms like recurrent headache, lethargy, double vision, and blurred vision, particularly with exercise or fasting. Severe hypoglycemia (low glucose) may result in seizures, coma, and permanent neurological damage.
It is diagnosed by- Ultrasound, CT Scan or MRI scan.
Surgical removal is a definite cure in initial stages. Medications like diazoxide and somatostatin are given sometimes

Pain abdomen can be due to several other reasons also. We need to evaluate and see by Utrasound or CT scan. Kindly go to the physician and get tested.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
