Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Hit On Top Of Head Followed By A Fall Cause Concussion?
My friend (in his 60 s & he s had one HA about a year or two ago) hit his head (top of head about couple inches back from hairline) on doorway (200 YO bldg. & he s 6 3 ) so hard he fell back on his back - I asked if he saw stars and he replied of course he did . His wife was there - he wouldn t go to ER or put ice pak on head. Is he likely to have a concussion?
He could certainly have a concussion. He could also have traumatic bleeding in the brain as well, sometimes even requiring surgery after an event like this. You cannot force him to go to the emergency room, but I would certainly recommend that he go to make sure that there is no other problem as a result of this fall and hit on the head.
