Can Heavy Smoking Cause Ear Pain Which Runs To The Neck?

My throat on both sides right underneath my ears hurt and the pain runs down my neck. My ears also hurt, and when I breath in real heavy my throat and ears feel raw. I have been smoking alot more than normal for the past week could this be the problem? Or do I have strep or an ear infection and the extra smoking is making it worse?
