Can Headaches And Tinnitus After A Head Injury Be Due To An Injured Cerebellum?

My brother in law bumped his head ( top of head) on amenable beam. All scans indicate nothing wrong, but he wakes up with terrible headache, unable to look down, difficulty doing everyday work like sweeping, mopping , ringing in his ears etc. could this be neck injury and injury to cerebellum?

Hello,

He may have suffered a CONCUSSION with the blow to the head. The symptoms you're describing may also be part of what we refer to as a POSTCONCUSSIVE SYNDROME (PCS).

He may also have jarred or traumatized the extraocular muscle control mechanism found in the upper brainstem (which is why he has trouble looking down.

My guess is that he's having DOUBLE VISION when he does that due to eye misalignment) but I don't believe there is any evidence from what you've presented of strict cerebellar involvement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Neurologist, Surgical Dr. Dr. Erion Spaho's  Response
Hello,

These symptoms after head injury are more consistent with an injury of the middle and inner ear apparatus than cerebellum or neck.

An evaluation by an ENT Doctor is necessary and probably further testing in order to get a correct diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
