Can Environment Change Cause Itchy Rashes?

My husband has a rash that seems to be spreading. The bumps look like whiteheads and are very itchy. He scratches them at night, sometimes causing bleeding. They look like they appear in a cluster. We moved a year ago from Calif. to Arizona. Could the change of environment be the cause? Perhaps a new allergy? I am at a loss. We haven t changed our foods, our laundry detergent, furniture, bedding. You can reply to Kathy at YYYY@YYYY . Thank you.

Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. In my opinion it is less likely that the change of environment could be direct cause of rash. Though the age of patient, medical history or other details of rash like location are not mentioned in the query one particular symptom caught my interest that is the patient scratches the rash to bleed at night.
Scabies is a skin infection caused by a mite that causes rash which is very itchy particularly at night. The rash appears mostly in the inner side of elbow (cubital fossa), armpits, finger webs, groin and behind the knee. It usually spreads all over the body and people who live in close proximity to the person with infection. It can be treated with over the counter medicated lotion containing benzyl benzoate 25% applied all over the body from neck to toes overnight followed by shower next morning.
Repeat this for 3 days followed by 2 days next week, wash and sun dry all the clothing used by infected person to prevent spread.
If symptoms does not subside or if spreads to other members of family consult a GP as prescriptive medication like permethrin will be needed.
Thank you.
