Can Dysfunction Eustachian Be Cured After Surgery?

I have been diagnosed with dysfunctional Eustachian (right ear). I also had sudden hearing loss in my left ear about four years ago. How effective is surgery for a dysfunctional Eustachian tube? Is deviation septum a common treatment for hard to treat cases? Or is surgery on the tube more successful?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dysfunctional Eustachian tube is healed by surgery. It occurs when the tube connecting the throat & middle ear gets inflamed & plugged. After myringotomy healing should occur within 4 weeks. Sometimes surgery to remove tubes may become necessary, it may take a longer time (6-8 months) to heal. Complications post myringotomy at times occur like tympanic membrane perforation, otorrhea, tympanosclerosis. Sometimes conductive hearing loss may occur.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
