Can Doing Topical Efudex Be Armful?

Doing topical efudex 5%.
--first 10 days only did 1 treatment to entire face per day (skipped nighttime treatment cuz seborrheic dermatitis reaction caused a lot of discomfort.
--next 9 days forced myself to do 2 treatments per day and avoided worst seb derm areas
-- hasn't really progressed much toward what I think erosion is supposed to look like in the last week, although more areas have become red so I'm confused if I can quit or if I need to really see some kind of erosion
-- yesterday was horrible and I don't want to keep going if not necessary

hello,

It seems that you are using 5-fluorouracil 5% (efudex) on your face. You have not mentioned for what condition you are using this medicine ( most probably you have been using it for actinic keratosis ).
The usual treatment period for face is 2 weeks with avoidance of areas like eyes, nasolabial folds and mouth. An inflammatory reaction is expected, like swelling, oozing and crusting. If a minimal reaction like redness occurs, one can continue for 1-2 weeks.

If you initially had seborrheic dermatitis, you should had probably not used this treatment at that time. You still have a mild reaction, therefore, you need to continue it for another 1-2 week.

At this time, you have two choices:

1. If You are too uncomfortable with the whole thing, stop everything, apply a mild steroid twice a day (fluticasone etc) for a week. Get you seborrheic dermatitis controlled and after that do your efudex regime again

2. In case, you don't want to do this whole procedure again, reduce the dose of efudex like 2%. continue for another 10 days. Alongwith it, start using same steroid cream and continue for one week after stopping the whole regime of efudex.

Thanks
