Can Dementia Cause Excessive Sleepiness For A 100 Year Old Woman?

My Mother has had a rash for the past 2 months. She is in a nursing home. At first they thought it was shingles and gave her medication for that. After about 2 weeks of treatment they decided it isn t shingles. They then blamed it on medication, but prior to the rash she had no medication. They have tried just about every kind of medication to no avail. They tell me they have not changed detergents or other cleaning materials.I have seen her deteriorate from an active woman that walked around with her walker to the point now she sits in a wheelchair and sleeps most of the time. She is 100 years old and has dementia. She has never taken medication except aspirin or something like that infrequently.
