Can Cardioverter Defibrillator Implant Be Removed If It Never Send Any Electrical Pluses Over Several Years?
My son is having a cardioverter defibrillator implanted tomorrow. If you have one and it never sends any electrical pluses over several years, can it be removed? He is an EMT and reserve fire fighter. His fire chief said he could come back to work when the doctor clears him. I have been reading all the infor on the internet. It said he could not have a commercial drivers permit. Do you know if that is true? Thank you for your help. This is very scary for all the family!!!
I am so sorry to hear about what your son are experiencing. A cardioverter defibrillator is put in order to spontaneously correct any abnormal heart rhythm as soon as it occurs. Because we never know when an abnormal rhythm would occur and need correction, it is advised for it to stay in place for as long as the disease condition is there. It is clearly in his interest to always stay around persons and areas that can grant rapid access to health facilities in case he runs into crisis. I do not know for sure whether he cannot have a commercial driver's license. It would be best to check directly with the DMV officers.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more clarification or information if need be. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
