Can Bridging Fibrosis In Biopsy And Intestinal Metaplasia In Gallbladder Lead To Cancer?

I just had gastric bypass and some test results came back which have scared me to death. My mom died at age 61 from cholangiocarcinoma (spelling?). My results say, bridging fibrosis and intestinal metaplasia on gallbladder path report . So, does this mean I am going to end up with cancer also? So scared.

Hi thanks for contacting HCM....

You have just now no cancer. ..
You have fibrosis and intestinal metaplasia.....
Metaplasia means replacement of one epithelium by another epithelium ....
But chances of development of malignancy can be there in your case , as you have positive family history also....
Sometime genetic mutation can lead primary sclerosing cholangitis like condition also..

So consult gastroentetologist for regular follow up ....

Take care...
