Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my period in September after having my baby im june . i heard your period could be irregular while breastfeeding which i do exclusively but i havent had my period yet. Husband and i get intimate from time to time could i be pregnant so soon or is something else the cause ?
Yes, breastfeeding can make your periods irregular. However, breastfeeding can only be used as a reliable method of contraception if you exclusively breastfeed, and if your periods do not come at all for the first six months after delivery. You had an episode of menstruation already, so I would not rule out pregnancy at this point.
Get a urine pregnancy test done, and discuss with your husband on the contraceptive methods that you want to use in the future. Since you are breastfeeding, common options would be barrier type like condoms, or progesterone-only contraception like the mini-pills or Depo-Provera shots.
Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have further questions.
Regards, Dr. Teh
