Can Black Mold Exposure Cause Discomfort In The Lungs?
Can black mold cause lung problems. Have a cabin in woods about 31/2 hours from my home. Went up last year and stayed 2 months...(Feb. and March). There was plenty of mouse poop also because I hadn't been there for 2 years. Three months ago I had blood work done by my rheumatologist (treats my Sjogrens disorder and my osteoarthritis). She found markers in blood work so she referred me to an oncologist who ordered a PET scan. Scan came back negative for cancer but showed abscess in right back lobe of right lung. Referred to lung surgeon who sent me to a radiologist who did a needle biopsy of abscess...again negative for cancer. They think I had some kind of infectious disease. Went today an had a CT. Results came back that my body is starting to heal itself but we still don't know what infectious was. I am 71 years old and have smoked for 56 years plus I have COPD. As far as I know I have not had pneumonia. I did have a bad case of bronchitis last March with running nose and stopped up ears. What I am wondering is could blak mold in cabin have anything to do with this. Use Advair discus, spiriva once a day, and have a puffer which I rarely use. By the way, I recently quit smoking. Thanks for your time and any information you may be able to give me. Go back for another CT without contrast in 3 months.
* The black mould can definitely obstruct smaller airway passages, particularly in a person who has a history of a long time smoking and airways, are already compromised via chronic fibrosis and scarring.
* Addition of inflammatory mediators as eosinophils will come into the picture as you had Sjogren syndrome as well.
