Can Behavioural Issues In Children Be Treated Through Counselling/medications?

my daughter is 9 years old and is having behavioral issues. She uses her anger and tantrums as a weapon towards myself and my spouse. She is self harming and is now hitting and kicking us. Would you suggest counseling first or medicating first we are lost as to what to do. She says she hears voices but of course we can t be sure if this is true or if she is just saying this.I know she needs immediate help. What do we do first??

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Usually behavior issues like temper tantrums, attention seeking etc can be successfully treated with behavior counseling and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy without medicines. But in your child's case, she says she is hearing voices which you cannot hear. This makes he behavior issue complicated. She could be having delusional disorder which needs to be treated by a psychiatrist. In any case, I request you to consult a psychologist first for assessment of the case.

If you still need my assistance in this regard, please use this link. http://goo.gl/aYW2pR. Please remember to describe the whole problem with full detail.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
