Can Artificial Nails Be Used Despite Having Fungal Infection In Nail?

I have worn acrylic nails for a very long time, never having a problem. However, one of them broke and when I took the acrylic the rest of the way off, I had a nail fungus underneath my nail. My question is can I put artificial nails on over that nail even with the fungus? A girlfriend says she does it, but I want to know for sure.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Artificial nails in case of fungal nails are not recommended. They can make the fungal infection worse. I recommend to avoid them. I also recommend to use an anti-fungal cream for local application such as Clotrimazole cream. It is important to maintain a good hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
