Can Any Online Doctor Help In Reading Transvaginal Sonography Report?

I had a transvaginal sonography done and the report read the endometrium has a heterogeneous texture. Endometrium is approximately 11mm in diameter. There is a anterior intramural fibroid, 2 x 2.8 x 2 cm in size. There are subcentimeter nabothian cysts in the cervic. With the impression that I have a mildly thickened heterogeneous endometrium. Anterior fibroid. My doctor said its nothing to worry about or check on later. But my mom has stomach cancer and my dad has prostate cancer. What should I do an what does this mean?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I understand your concern as you have a family history of cancer.

The report suggests that the endometrium [the inside lining of the uterus that is shed during menses] is not uniform. This may mean many things ranging from a simple excessive growth, to presence of small tumors called polyps to even cancer. Another cause may be a hormonal disturbance leading to excess growth. I must mention one issue, that all reports are interpreted based on certain other histories like age, number of children and many other. So I will need these to help narrow the diagnosis.

The fibroids are non cancerous tumors of the uterus. They are very common and do not usually need treatment unless they cause symptoms or grow to big sizes. Yours is a small one. If it is causing any symptoms then only you will need treatment for it.

The nabothian cysts are small cysts formed due to blocking of ducts of nabothian gland. They do not need any treatment.

For a similar patient in my OPD, I would suggest an endometrial sampling [meaning collect the endometrium and examine it under a microscope to look for the cause of the heterogenicity] either by a simple office endometrial biopsy or a proper dilatation and curettage procedure done under anesthesia. This will help rule out cancer and decide about further treatment.

Please do not worry as this is a single abnormal finding and may be due to many causes and very rarely cancer. I suggest you get the biopsy done and then decide about further treatment.

Hope I was able to help you. Thanks for using Health Care Magic.
I would be happy to answer any further queries.
Have a nice day.
