Can Amniocentesis Test Report Be Wrong?

Hi
amnio centesis done on my wife shows that the baby has downs syndrome. Are there any chances that the baby may not be affected by downs syndrome? here i would like to add that all sonography including 3D reports are absolutely normal and show no signs of any abnormality. If yes then would the baby be fully retarded?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Detection of Down syndrome by amniocentesis is diagnostic of Down syndrome.
Down syndrome is characterized by certain structural anomalies and certain visceral abnormalities.
For e.g. Dow syndrome is characterised by characteristic facies, swelling (lymphangioma) in the neck, single simian crease etc.
There is increased incidence of AML in these parients.
