Can A Runny Nose Be Caused Due To Acid Reflux?

i am 57 years old and about two weeks ago i started getting a runny nose at work we work in ac and it is cold ,i have a pulpating heart so i can not take any allergey medicines that are stimulates so i have been taking beneydryl for three days last week but i get so tired at work so i took benedryl on monday of this week then on tuesday i took alkaselzer cold and flu it helped a little but it is bad for your liver so i havent been taking anything for my runny nose for the last two days giving my body a break but can a runny nose be a cause from acid reflex?

Yes, a runny nose or post nasal drip can cause reflux/heartburn/Gerd and reflux can also in turn causes a runny nose or post nasal drip. There are many different treatments for allergies that do not cause drowsiness such as Claritin, Allegra, or Zyrtec. If you have a history of heart palpitations and do not buy the kind with Sudafed in it. In my practice if a patient has the cycle of gerd/runny nose I treat the runny nose either with allergy medications or a steroid nasal spray like Flonase and I treat the gerd with twice today Zantac to break the cycle. It may take some testing to determine whether your underlying issue is actually the Gerd or the runny nose. I hope that helps!
