Can A Multivitamin Supplement Be Taken While On Warfarin?

I am on Warfarin because I have aq mechanical heart valve. I know that I am not supposed to take vitamin E because it can act as a blood thinner. I have been taking a multivitamin that contains 15 IUs of vitamin E. Is it ok to continue taking it or do I need to stop?

Hello,

Yes, vitamin E is found to have blood thinning property. Since it is only 15 IU, it can still be taken. If it is absolutely necessary or if you change the other tablets, take a group of vitamin B12 tablets only.

You get these supplements by consuming fruits and nuts. Rather than going for the medication, you still get it with diet rich in vitamin B12 supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
