General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Avoid taking St. John's wart along with Zocor and Imitrex. St. John's wort is a herbal supplement commonly used to ease the symptoms of depression. When taken along with certain medications it may reduce their effectiveness or may cause harmful effects.

1. When taken along with Zocor it may decrease the effects of Zocor. Consult your doctor if your condition changes or if your cholesterol increases or you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications.

2. If taken along with Imitrex it can increase the risk of a serious condition called the 'serotonin syndrome' which is characterized by confusion, hallucination, seizure, high blood pressure & heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, muscle stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In its severe form, it may result in coma and even death. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications or your doctor would prescribe an alternate effective medicine for the treatment of migraine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
