Can Vitamin C Supplements Cause Elevated Uric Acid Levels?

I take 1000 mg of Vitamin C every day along with an eye care vitamin that I believe contains vitamin C.
I recently have had two attacks of Gout in my feet.
My doctors's Physician Assistant has prescribed Allopuinal (100 mg) to reduce uric acid levels.
Could my use of Vitamin C be excessive to the point of causing the elevated uric acid levels?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Vitamin C supplements does not cause elevated uric acid levels.High uric acid levels can be due to diet high in proteins, Diet high in fructose such as corn syrup, Excessive salt intake etc. It can also be due reduced excretion by the kidneys & certain drugs.
Your doctor's Assistant has prescribed Allopurinol (100 mg). It would help to reduce elevated uric acid levels. You should also decrease pulses, red meat, beans in diet. Corn, cashews consumption should be stopped.

Refer to your physician
Hope this information helps
