Can Viscodyne Be Taken During Pregnancy For Phayngitis?

Hi doctor ,my wife is 30th week of pregnancy and she has very acute form of Cough and cold .She also suffers from pharyngitis and was administered once Viscodyne D once ,still it has not subsided ,will the consumption affect the child ? Can she consume one more bottle of syrup to feel better

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Viscodyne D contain Dextromethorphan that is a cough suppressant and in some researches it is seen to cause teratogenicity or birth defects while some cases does not show to cause any birth defects in babies when the pregnant women took Dextromethorphan..
But in order to be on a safer side I would suggest you to avoid taking Viscodyne D and can be taken only if the condition is very severe and should be taken only after consulting your Gynaecologist..
You can do steam inhalation, warm saline gargles and use a humidifier in your room..
You should use saline nasal irrigation..
You should chew Vitamin C pellet to boost up immunity..
You can also take Acetaminophen to relieve throat irritation that can initiate cough..
Drink plenty of water and warm fluids..
Avoid chilled and spicy food ..
Do warm compresses over the chest
