Can Uroxatral Be Used Twice A Day?

I have used uroxatral in the past (about 5 years ago); and it seemed to work only half a day, so I discontinued it, and put up with the BPH symptoms. I believe that may have been due to my iliostomy, and the fact that food is excreted within a 6 hour cycle; therefore I don t get the full benefit of a timed-release medication. Is it possible to get a prescription that can be taken twice a day, assuming my analysis is factual? Thanks, R.Williams

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Uroxatral contains 'alfuzosin', which is an alpha-adrenergic blocker. It causes relaxation of the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Hence, it is used to improve urination in men with
benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).
10 mg orally once a day immediately after the same meal each day is the recommended dose.
It is advised not to take more dose other than what has been recommended.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
