Can Thyronorm Cause Weight Gain And Concentration Problems?

hi doc, I have been taking thyronorm 25mcg. for almost 6 months now, i have had hysterectomy done. After taking this medicine i feel i have become more forgetful, have gained weight, & my focus when listening to some important talk is just not there. i have been a very alert person, full of life , energetic, happy , now all of this is so far fetched. i feel tired easily, feel low & depressed, worry too much, and feel terrible. Is all of this because of taking thyronorm 25mcg. i tablet daily. If my thyroid tests are normal, can i give it up. Will i be my old self again.

Hi,

Thyronorm does not cause weight gain and concentration problems. Based on the history you seem to have developed features suggestive of inadequate thyronorm dose to control hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormones).

I advise you to consult your doctor to increase the dose of thyronorm so as to maintain the TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level within its normal range.
