Can Sofradex Be Used For Perforated Ear Drum?

Hello, I have been diagnosed with a perforated ear drum, caused by pressure change on a flight that I took recently. The doctor has prescribed an antibiotic in the form of a tablet and Sofradex, an ear drop. However I see online that Sofradex is not recommended with a perforated ear drum. Is this true? And should I discontinue use of the ear drops? Thanks! S

Hi,

Sofradex Ear drops must not be used in case of perforated ear drum, as it is contraindicated because of high risk of ototoxicity. However you can use home remedies like:
- Placing a hot compress on your ear several times daily and analgesics for pain
- Do not blow your nose as it might create pressure in your ears
- Have a word with your doctor before using it

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
