Can Sildenafil Cause A Stroke?

my husband had a small stroke leaving slight expressive aphasia. this happened about 2 hours after taking 40mg of sidenaphil (generic Viagra) and intercourse. We have used sildenafil for 10 years without problems. He is a type 2 diabetic with hypertension. He is worried the med may contribute more stroke risk. Thank you

Viagra (Sildenafil) is the citrate salt of Sildenafil, which is a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), commonly used as an oral therapy for erectile dysfunction.
Common side effects of Sildenafil use include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, and impaired vision.
Rare but serious adverse effects found include prolonged erections, severe low blood pressure, myocardial infarction , ventricular arrhythmia, stroke, increased intraocular pressure and sudden hearing loss. In your case, stroke could have been caused due to consumption of Viagra. However, since your husband has other risk factors for stroke like type 2 diabetes and hypertension, the episode cannot be solely attributed to consumption of Viagra only.
