Can Serequel Cause Bad Dreams Or Nightmares?

Can this drug serequel cause bad dreams or nightmares. I have been on it for about three years, and take just 50 mgs. I used to take 100mgs. but the doctor told me about a year ago to cut the tablet in half. I also take 1 mg. of clonazepam both before going to bed. For about the last six months, I have an occasional terrible nightmare or dream and cannot wake up out of it. I dream for example that someone is in the bed with me holding me down and I try to get up but cannot. It does not happen every night but scares me.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Seroquel is Quetiapine and the drug is an antipsychotic drug. The drug has not much effects on sleep architecture but it is known to increase REM sleep in some individuals. REM sleep is a type of sleep in which increased nightmares are seen. You are also taking 1 mg of Clonazepam. Clonazepam also affects sleep architecture and taking both these drugs together probably has resulted in increased night mares and bad dreams. So if these nightmares are causing signifiant distress and are hampering your sleep then I would advise you to consult your doctor again and discuss about reducing the dose of Clonazepam and Quetiapine and if possible add some other sleep medicine that regularise the sleep like Ramelteon or Melatonin etc. This will help to reduce the nightmares. Discuss with your doctor for prescription.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.
