Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I want to delay my periods by 10 days, I am expecting to have periods on 19th Nov, I have already started taking Regestrone 5mg on 16 Nov night. What should be my dosage? 2 tablets twice daily? when should I stop taking medication? After stopping medication when should I expect my periods?
1. This is a common demand in general practice to postpone menses, to avoid it during functions or traveling, so I usually prescribe my female patients:
i. Tablet Regesterone [noresthisterone] 5 mg: 1 tablet twice daily which should be started at least 3 days before the menses, and continue as long as postponement is desired, but generally not more than 10 to 15 days, and you might get your periods two or three days after you have stopped your medicine.
PS. you may consult a Gynecologist regarding the same or for other options like Tablet Ovral L [contraceptive pill and for postponement of menses] since the easiest and best ways to delay your periods involve birth control or other prescription medicines.
ii. delaying periods is not a mean to guard against pregnancy. [unless you are on birth control pills or have a device like IUD], so take extra means of protection like the use of a condom.
