Can Protonix Be Taken For Treatment Of Acid Reflux?

I was wondering if it s safe to take protonix for my Acid reflux? I have a rare autoimmune disease that was originally diagnosed in Jan/2012. Since then I have been on a number of prescription drugs and I m a little worried about taking something new without getting a second opinion. I have 3 small children and cannot afford to have any adverse reactions to this new medication or INTERACTIONS with the medications that I m already on. I use to be on Prilosec 20mg daily for my heartburn.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
If you have been taking Prilosec 20 mg for heartburn, then you can definitely takeProtonix which is pentaprazole. It will also be unlikely to have any interactions with other drugs (no names have been mentioned). Compared to Omeprazole pentaprazole will be a bit more efficacious. However, long term use of pentaprazole can aggravate osteoporosis and can cause bone thinning. Where as Omeprazole does not show such an effect. Thanks
