Can Progesterone Tablets Be Used To Manage Fibroids?

Hi thanks for your assistance. I am curious about using progesterone to assist with fibriods. Whay are the negative implications. My MD recommended either ignoring/monitoring, atrial embolization, myomectomy, or hysterectomy -whatever I was leaning toward but never mentioned either IUD or mini pill. IN THE PAST i used a diaphragm as I have been leary of hormones secondary to multiple 2nd trimester miscarriages whicg they thought were blood clot related, but to my understanding clots are estrogen related and this is another, bigger deal than just convienent birth control Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Recent studies do not support the use of hormones to control fibroids. The only hormone that is found effective is Gonadotropins as they are found to reduce them at least 50% in size during a three months treatment but fibroids come back to their size soon after treatment is stopped.

Thus, the only effective long term way to treat them is by removal or arterial embolization.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
