Can Omeprazole That I Have Consumed For Several Years Cause Cancer?

I have been taking Omeprozole 40 mg each day for the past several years. Is it known to cause cancer of the throat? My throat has been quite scratchy for the past few days. I normally do not get ill. I have had no colds or sore throats within the past 10 years. I am age 75 and actively working as I own a business......also, can I wean myself off the Omeprozole?

I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug used for gastritis related conditions.There is no proven relation between PPIs and cancer.Omeprazole is a relatively safe drug and you can very well use it.But prolonged use may have some side effects like vitamin B12 deficiency and osteoporosis.If you can't tolerate omeprazole you can use other antacid drugs.
Use warm saline gargles for your sore throat.Avoid cold drinks.Consult a general practitioner if symptoms persists.
