Can Nytol Be Taken While On Zopiclone?

My doctor only prescribes Zopiclone for every other night to avoid dependency. Can I take Nytol on the alternate night and will it have an effect. The pharmacist said I should ask the doctor for a lower dose of Zopiclone on alternate nights. She thought Nytol would have no effect.

Zopiclone is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent used in the treatment of insomnia. Nytol is composed of 'diphenhydramine', which is an antihistamine mainly used to treat allergies. It is also used for insomnia, symptoms of the common cold, tremor in parkinsonism, and nausea. Interaction between diphenhydramine and zopiclone has been noted and both these medications could exaggerate certain side effects such as drowsiness. Hence, it is advisable speak with your doctor if you are taking any of these medications.
